About Us
GOALSoccer is an organization that pairs elementary to middle school age kids with mild to moderate special needs one-on-one with experienced Georgia Tech students to learn soccer skills in a fun, constructive environment. Throughout the year these kids learn and practice various drills and then compete in the Atlanta Special Olympics in May with their "coach" cheering them on! This organization is completely free of charge for kids to participate in and is accredited and sponsored by the Georgia Special Olympics.
We have a team of Georgia Tech student volunteers who are recruited, interviewed, and selected by the GOALS Executive Board to serve as 'buddies' to the special needs players. They participate in training prior to the season given by the Special Olympics Georgia regional manager. We are dedicated to giving Atlanta area children with disabilities the opportunity to experience the value of team sports through the game of soccer.
Practices are held on Sundays from 11:45 - 1:00 PM. Practices include warm-up games and stretching, Special Olympics Summer Games specific soccer drills, and a small sided scrimmage to wrap up practice. The 2019 season will begin in late August at the Georgia Tech SAC Fields. Check out our Calendar for all the important dates!
